Install in Firefox

Use Firefox 142 or later, on desktop or Android. The Firefox Add-ons listing is awaiting review. You can install a published, Mozilla-signed bundle manually while store review is pending.

Download the signed bundle

Download for Firefox (0.5.4.1)

The public download above is the current approved Mozilla-signed briefmark-VERSION-firefox.xpi.

Keep the .xpi file intact. Do not unzip it, rename a ZIP to .xpi, or install the firefox-unsigned.zip, firefox-source.zip, or GitHub Source code archive. Those files are not signed installers.

Desktop

Section titled “Desktop”
  1. Download the signed .xpi to your computer.
  2. Enter about:addons in Firefox’s address bar and select Extensions.
  3. Open the gear menu (Tools for all add-ons) and choose Install Add-on From File….
  4. Select the .xpi, then review and accept Firefox’s installation prompt.
  5. Open a regular website and activate Briefmark from the Extensions menu. Add a comment to check the installation. You can pin Briefmark to the toolbar for easier access.

Android

Section titled “Android”

Manual file installation requires Android 10 or later and Firefox 142 or later.

  1. Download the signed .xpi from this page onto your phone.
  2. In Firefox, open Settings → About Firefox. Tap the Firefox logo five times, until the debug-menu confirmation appears.
  3. Return to Settings and choose Install extension from file.
  4. Select the downloaded .xpi and accept the installation prompt.
  5. Open a website, then choose Extensions → Briefmark from Firefox’s menu. Tap an element and add a comment.

If the file-install option is missing, check the Android version and repeat the logo taps. Mozilla confirms that file installation is unavailable below Android 10. Firefox on iPhone and iPad does not support these extensions.

Update a manual installation

Section titled “Update a manual installation”

Save open drafts, download the newer signed .xpi, and repeat the file-install steps in the same Firefox profile. Accept the update without first removing Briefmark, then refresh your open websites. The package uses the same extension identity so saved feedback stays with the installation.

Export your feedback before removing the extension or changing profiles. There is no automatic transfer between browsers or devices.
